Active Travel For All: Active Travel Festival St Andrews 2023
The cumulation of a week long festival of all things active travel is this showcase of how everyone can access active travel.
Getting out on a cycle should be accessible for everyone whatever their ability or needs. Disabled people can enjoy many types of cycles based on their needs and preferences. Hand cycles, recumbent cycles, trikes, side by side bikes and tandems can be used for exercise or as a mode of transport. Many disabled cyclists use their bikes as their main means of transport.
Cycling has great benefits for health. However, there is a major obstacle, which often makes it inaccessible to some disabled people – the cost. Specialised bikes can be extremely expensive.
We want to support people ride for pleasure and better still for their everyday transport or to deliver their goods. So we got funding for a fleet of electric assisted cargo and adaptive (all ability) cycles and we want you to borrow them.
We have trikes, laid back bikes (recumbents), long bikes, short bikes, boxy bikes that you can put your kids in and one that you can sit side by side with friend or loved one if they can’t pedal too hard or at all.
Come along and meet the team at Church Square. And have a shot at the most up to date adaptive cycles and cargo bikes.
