Tree planting event – Observatory Shelterbelt
Join us to diversify this existing woodland by planting a rich understorey of native fruiting and flowering trees. This will include rowan, with creamy white flowers in spring and bright clusters of berries in autumn, as well as wild cherry, English oak, silver birch and more. We’ll even include some Scots pine trees for the red squirrels that are regularly seen here.
The woodland have recently been thinned which will create openings allowing this succession planting to flourish. There are 420 young saplings, gifted by Woodland Trust Scotland. Helpers greatly appreciated!
Drop in anytime throughout the event to plant a tree or two or more… Meet at Observatory car park. For later arrivals, see What3Words location.
Gloves and tools provided; wear sturdy footwear and warm outdoor clothing. We’ll also provide hot refreshments and biscuits.
