What is St AndReuse?

St AndReuse is a townwide project that aims to tackle waste, save carbon, keep money in our pockets and build community, by passing on what we no longer need. It is open to everyone – locals, students and staff alike and we need your help in rehoming donations. It is located behind University Hall, off Kennedy Gardens and is a partnership project with St Andrews Environmental Network (StAndEN). We welcome donations throughout the year, which can either be dropped off during Reuse’s drop-in sessions at University Hall or with our StAndEN partners at the Eco Hub (at 40 Kinnessburn Road). Everything is FREE except adult clothes/shoes, which are 5 for £5. Because of the support and engagement of the community, since 2009 we have rehomed over 40 tonnes of perfectly reusable household items, avoided 200 tonnes of CO2e emissions and helped people save in excess of £500k.

We have just about everything but our staples are kitchenware (saucepans, crockery, glasses, cutlery etc), fluffy cushions and blankets, laundry baskets/ shower racks, kids toys and clothes, a huge range of adults shoes and clothes, stationery (folders, pens, notebooks), puzzles and games, electricals (adapters, cables), books, toiletries & make-up, cleaning products, and all kinds of bedding (duvets, duvet covers and sheets, pillows and pillow cases, mattress protectors). Previous unusual donations include things like fairy wings, a Nintendo Wii, a family size tent (sleeping 8-12), golf clubs, a dehumidifier, drum kit, blow up mattresses… the list goes on. You just never know what you’re going to find!

New in 2024, students can pre-order Sustainable Bedding Bundles from April, ahead of their arrival in, or return to St Andrews. All bedding is pre-owned and has been professionally laundered locally, and is delivered to Halls of Residence in recyclable packaging. For more info and to pre-order, see here.

We are open Mondays and Fridays 12:30 – 2:30pm and the first Saturday of the month 11am – 1pm. This project is a partnership between Transition, the St Andrews Environmental Network and the University of St Andrews.

Big Giveaways

Big Giveaways take place at the start of each semester for new and returning students to get all the things they need during their time here in St Andrews. Everything except adult shoes/clothes is free.

Weekly Drop-In Sessions

Our drop-ins, for everyone in the community, are based at Transition’s storage in University Hall, running 12:30-2:30pm on Mondays and Fridays (see events for confirmation) and 11am – 1pm the first Saturday of the month. Stop by to volunteer, pass on items or pick up new ones. Everything except adult shoes/clothes is free.

Shared Kitchen Packs in Halls

While reusing is vital, we also need to reduce. Transition is working with halls of residences to create kitchenware sets for shared accommodation. This way students won’t require buying in brand new kitchenware each year.

Support Fife Charities

The St Andrews Environmental Network support several charities across Fife by creating home packs and providing essential items. The majority of the items come from donations in halls. Charities include Fife Gingerbread, Families First and Fife Women’s Aid. Transition also works directly to provide free resources to local beneficiaries such as Madras High School, primary schools and nurseries, church groups, farmers, and many others. Do get in touch if you would like to work with us.

Clothes Swaps & Sales

St AndReuse hosts clothing swap & sale pop-ups, which are a great way to lower your footprint, save money and tackle fast fashion. Clothes are £5 for up to 5 items or you can swap your clothes on a one-to-one basis.

Where To Find Us

At the St Andrews Environmental Network Eco Hub on Kinnesburn Road you can donate to St AndReuse or request items. Transition’s reuse storage is for volunteering and drop-ins to collect items. It is based at University Hall, Kennedy Gardens.
